Because of a commitment tonight, I had to get up early this morning and start my 5K by 6 AM. I wasn’t thrilled with the prospect of an early morning 5K, but I did it anyway. As it turned out, I was quite happy with the results. It was windy and cold, but it didn’t bother me as much as it has later today. I think the mercury has progressively moved downward as the day has worn on, so I’m glad it’s out of the way.
Although I started when it was pretty dark outside, it was cloudy. It’s been cloudy all day, so no shadows here. That Pennsylvania rodent should move to Oklahoma. Or perhaps he shouldn’t because someone might use him to predict earthquakes, tornadoes, ice storms, or windy conditions.
My 5K went pretty fast–just over 40 minutes and I guess I was on autopilot for some of it because I don’t remember a lot of the course that I ran. It’s just as well that I don’t remember it. Who wants to relive 40+ minutes of grunting, sweating, and huffing for the rest of the day? I don’t.
I used to go to the gym and workout in the mornings at 5:30 AM and I enjoyed that, so who knows, the early morning 5K might become a thing for me.
When you run, jog, or walk, please pay attention to your surroundings. It’s nice to listen to music, NPR, or your own mix tapes when you’re out, but don’t allow yourself too much distraction, since I’m fairly certain that’s how people get hit by cars. Stay safe out there.
